PROJECT IDEA
The goal of Ghana Clinic Project (GCP) is to collaborate with residents of the village of Wli Todzi to construct a local primary health care clinic, as defined by the World Health Organization. Services provided will include maternity related interventions, childhood disease prevention and treatment, malaria prevention and treatment and others. Maternity related interventions are a focus of this project because of high fatality rates amongst women due to complications at birth, a situation exacerbated by economic and geographic restraints to their mobility. We work with local health professionals and the Wli Todzi community to ensure that services provided are driven by local needs. Through this collaborative construction process we ensure that the clinic is tailored to the needs of the people. The Ghana Clinic project will construct, equip, and arrange for continuous staffing of the Wli Todzi Health Clinic.
WHAT IS THE RISE UP DEVELOPMENT COLLECTIVE (RUDC)?
Rise Up Development Collective (RUDC) is an international, volunteer-based organization focused on improving the lives of the people of Wli Todzi, Ghana. RUDC is project-based, meaning we identify issues the people of Wli Todzi have, and create projects as solutions.
PROJECT GOALS
1. Complete construction of Wli Todzi Health Clinic facility.
2. Arrange strategic partnerships to ensure continuous quality care.
3. Provide equipment to support medical staff.
4. Continue offering support to the community to ensure longevity and sustainability of the clinic.
Providing a clinic for the village will lower the severity of diseases and loss due to life threatening problems. It will also make medication and vaccination more accessible, preventing future complications and contagions.
CONNECTION TO OPERATION GROUNDSWELL
Operation Groundswell began its partnership with Rise Up Development Collective (RUDC) in Wli Todzi in 2012 through its travel program. This travel program has provided OG teams with homestay accommodations, food, guidance and lasting friendships. Through in-depth discussions, OG teams came to understand the challenges related to government support, infrastructure, health care, job security as well as the role the organization plays in community advocacy and self development.
RUDC’s travel program introduces travelers and volunteers to an honest perspective and experience of life living in the mountains with limited access to resources.
