The Eco Journey Begins!

Operation Groundswell is proud to kick off its first ever Southeast Asia Eco trip. Aimed with a focus on the environment, our role in it as travelers in Asia, Canadians volunteering abroad and general global citizens, we hope to gain a deeper perspective of a multitude of issues.

The group arrived on different flights a few days ago after long journeys with stopovers in Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, and even, Helsinki, Finland. Once in Bangkok, everyone settled in with a nice orientation in the park where the participants had a chance to introduce themselves, we went over the trip itinerary and everyone generally got excited about the action-packed six weeks to come.

The next day, the group participated in the annual ‘Great Siamese Adventure in the Streets of Bangkok.’ The scavenger hunt made the teams of four travel all around the city, from the slums to the opulence of Siam Paragon, all the while taking pictures to document their journey. Everyone had great photos and even better stories. Here are some of the highlights of the day.

To end the day, the group went out for a nice meal of traditional Thai street food. Everyone enjoyed their meals, especially Steve who was peer pressured into eating a full bag of maggots. As you can tell, the trip started off with a bang!

We’ll send more updates as they come along.
